The Kribi Lighthouse is a navigational aid located in Kribi, Cameroon. It stands on a promontory overlooking the Gulf of Guinea.

Visual Characteristics

The lighthouse is a cylindrical concrete tower painted white. It stands approximately 30 meters (98 feet) in height. A red lantern room is situated at the apex. The base is a square concrete structure.

Location & Access Logistics

The lighthouse is situated at the southern end of Kribi's coastline. Access is via the paved road leading to the Kribi Port, approximately 3 kilometers (1.9 miles) south of the Kribi city center. Limited parking is available at the base of the structure. No public transport directly serves the lighthouse; taxis from Kribi city center are the primary option.

Historical & Ecological Origin

Construction of the Kribi Lighthouse was completed in 1906 during the German colonial period. Its original purpose was to guide maritime traffic into the port of Kribi. The site is composed of coastal sedimentary rock formations.

Observation of the lighthouse structure is the primary activity. The surrounding area offers views of the coastline and the Atlantic Ocean. No climbing or interior access is permitted.

Infrastructure & Amenities

No public restrooms or shade structures are present at the lighthouse site. Cell phone signal (4G) is generally available. Food vendors are not located at the immediate site but are present in the town of Kribi.

Best Time to Visit

For photography, late afternoon provides direct sunlight on the western facade. The dry season, from November to March, offers the most stable weather conditions. Tidal information is not relevant for access to the lighthouse.

During its operational years, the lighthouse beam was visible for approximately 20 nautical miles. Local lore suggests the lighthouse was built on a site previously used by fishermen for centuries.
