It is situated at the foot of St. Paul's Hill, within the historical core of Malacca City.
Visual Characteristics
The structure is a wooden building constructed in a traditional Malay architectural style. It features a multi-tiered roof with intricate carvings and decorative elements. The exterior is painted in earthy tones, primarily brown and red, with dark wood accents. The building is approximately 12 meters high and covers a significant ground area, designed to resemble a royal residence.

The museum is located at Jalan Kota, Bandar Hilir, Malacca. It is approximately 2 kilometers south of the Malacca city center. Access is via Jalan Melaka Raya 1, then turning onto Jalan Kota. Parking is available in designated lots near the Stadthuys and Christ Church, approximately a 5-minute walk from the museum. Bus routes P101, P102, and P103 from the Melaka Sentral bus terminal stop near the Stadthuys, requiring a short walk to the site.
Historical & Ecological Origin
This building is a reconstruction, completed in 1984, based on historical descriptions of the original Melaka Sultanate Palace. The original palace, built by Sultan Mansur Shah in the 15th century, was constructed entirely of wood and was destroyed by fire or dismantled shortly after the Portuguese conquest in 1511. The current structure aims to replicate the architectural style and layout of the original royal residence.
