The mission church is constructed primarily of masonry, with exterior walls of adobe brick covered in lime plaster. Its dominant feature is a large, white, domed structure with a prominent bell tower. The architectural style is Baroque, with Moorish influences evident in its intricate facade and interior ornamentation. The interior features extensive frescoes, carvings, and statues, many of which are original.

Mission San Xavier del Bac is situated approximately 15 miles south of downtown Tucson, Arizona. Access is via Interstate 19, taking Exit 99 for San Xavier Road. The mission is located directly off San Xavier Road. Ample parking is available on-site, including designated areas for buses and RVs. Public transportation options are limited; however, the Sun Tran bus system operates Route 105, which stops near the mission.

The current church structure was constructed between 1783 and 1797, under the direction of Father Juan Bautista de Anza. It was built by Franciscan missionaries and is considered one of the finest examples of Spanish Colonial architecture in the United States. The mission was established in 1692 by Father Eusebio Kino as a Catholic mission to the indigenous Tohono O'odham people.
