The trailhead for Mount Taboi is situated approximately 2 kilometers (1.2 miles) southwest of the main settlement of Clifton. Access to the trailhead is via the paved Union Island Main Road, turning onto a smaller unpaved track. Parking is available at the trailhead, accommodating approximately 5-7 vehicles. Public transport to Clifton is available via local minibuses; from Clifton, the trailhead is a 30-minute walk or a short taxi ride.

Mount Taboi is a dormant stratovolcano, part of the Lesser Antilles volcanic arc. Its formation dates back to the Pleistocene epoch, resulting from tectonic activity along the Caribbean Plate boundary. The island's ecosystem is a tropical dry forest, adapted to the volcanic soil and prevailing trade winds.

The primary activity is hiking to the summit. The trail is approximately 1.5 kilometers (0.9 miles) one-way and is moderately challenging. The summit provides a vantage point for observing neighboring islands such as Carriacou and Grenada. Birdwatching is also a common activity due to the diverse avian population.

There are no facilities at the trailhead or on the trail itself. Restrooms and food vendors are located in Clifton. Cell phone signal (4G) is generally available at the lower elevations and near Clifton, but can be intermittent on the upper slopes of Mount Taboi.
Best Time to Visit
The best time of day for hiking is early morning, between 7:00 AM and 10:00 AM, to avoid the midday heat and for optimal lighting conditions for photography. The dry season, from January to May, offers the most favorable weather with lower humidity and minimal rainfall. There are no tidal considerations for this inland hike.
Facts & Legends
Local folklore suggests that the peak was once the dwelling of a powerful spirit who protected the island. It is said that on clear nights, faint lights can be seen emanating from the summit, attributed to this ancient guardian.
