Public transportation options are limited; however, Collier Area Transit (CAT) bus route 11 stops within walking distance of the garden entrance.

The garden was established in 1994 on land formerly owned by the Fakahatchee Strand Preserve State Park. The initial concept was to create a botanical garden showcasing plants from the Caribbean and South America. The site itself is part of the Southwest Florida coastal plain, characterized by sandy soils and a subtropical climate. The garden's development has focused on preserving and displaying plant diversity from these regions, alongside native Florida ecosystems.

Visitors can explore themed gardens, including the Water Garden, the Children's Garden, and the Conservation Garden. Guided walking tours are offered daily, departing from the Visitor Center. Best Time to Visit

The best time of day for photography is generally in the morning or late afternoon when the light is softer. The most favorable months for visiting are from October through May, avoiding the peak heat and humidity of the summer months. High tide is not a factor for garden access. Specific events may have designated visiting hours.

Facts & Legends

A unique feature is the Bertha's Garden, a collection dedicated to the memory of Bertha, a beloved capuchin monkey who resided at the garden for many years. The garden also houses a significant collection of orchids, with over 1,000 species and hybrids represented.
