The lighthouse is a cylindrical concrete tower, painted white with red horizontal bands. It stands approximately 30 meters tall. A lantern room with a rotating beacon is situated at the apex. The base is a reinforced concrete platform.

The lighthouse is situated at the eastern end of Pulau Melaka, approximately 3 kilometers south of the Malacca city center. Access is via Jalan Pulau Melaka, turning off Jalan Syed Abdul Aziz. Limited public parking is available at the Pulau Melaka waterfront. No direct public transport serves the immediate vicinity; a taxi or ride-sharing service from the city center is the most direct method.

Construction of the Perdana Quay Lighthouse was completed in 1995. It was designed and built by the Malacca Port Authority to enhance maritime safety and navigation for the expanding port facilities. The site is reclaimed land.
