Historical & Ecological Origin

Pico Peak was first developed for skiing in 1937 by the Central Vermont Railway. The area was established to promote rail travel during the winter months. The mountain is part of the Green Mountains range, characterized by metamorphic rock formations.

Facts & Legends

Pico Mountain was once owned by the family of Olympic skier Andrea Mead Lawrence, who won two gold medals in the 1952 Winter Olympics. A local anecdote suggests that the mountain's name originates from the Italian word for "peak."
