Its primary structure is composed of light-colored stone, with a prominent bell tower rising approximately 100 feet. The roof is clad in copper, exhibiting a green patina. Construction of the current structure began in 1902 and was completed in 1920, replacing an earlier church built in 1749. The architect was Robert B. Kelly. The original purpose was to serve as the principal church for the Catholic population of San Antonio and the surrounding region.

Facts & Legends
