Singha Park, Chiang Rai, Thailand, Asia
Singha Park is a large agricultural and recreational area located in the Mueang Chiang Rai District of Chiang Rai Province, Thailand.
It functions as a working tea plantation, a tourist attraction, and a venue for events.
Visual Characteristics
The park covers approximately 8,000 rai (about 1,280 hectares) of rolling hills. The landscape is characterized by extensive tea plantations, interspersed with fields of other crops such as sunflowers and various flowers. The terrain includes gentle slopes and some steeper inclines. Several man-made lakes and ponds are present throughout the park. The central area features a large, modern visitor center and restaurant complex constructed with a blend of wood and concrete, featuring a distinctive roof design.
Location & Access Logistics
Singha Park is situated approximately 9 kilometers northwest of Chiang Rai city center. Access is via Highway 1 (Phahonyothin Road) heading north, then turning west onto Highway 1020 (Wiang Chai Road). The park entrance is clearly signposted. Ample parking is available on-site, with designated areas for cars and tour buses. Public transport options directly to the park are limited; however, taxis and songthaews (shared taxis) can be hired from Chiang Rai city. The park operates its own shuttle service for internal transportation.
Historical & Ecological Origin
Singha Park was established by Boon Rawd Brewery (the producer of Singha beer) in 2007. The land was previously used for agriculture. The park was developed with the objective of promoting sustainable agriculture, eco-tourism, and community development. The ecological focus includes the cultivation of tea and other crops using modern agricultural techniques, alongside conservation efforts for the surrounding natural environment.
Key Highlights & Activities
Activities include exploring the tea plantations via walking or cycling. The park offers a zipline course (Flight of the Gibbon) for aerial views. Visitors can rent bicycles or electric scooters to navigate the grounds. A small zoo area houses giraffes and zebras. The park also features a botanical garden and a farm-to-table restaurant. Seasonal events, such as flower festivals, are held throughout the year.
Infrastructure & Amenities
Restrooms are available at the main visitor center and at various points throughout the park. Shaded areas are provided by trees and covered seating structures. Cell phone signal (4G/5G) is generally good within the main visitor areas. Food and beverage options are available at the park's restaurant and smaller kiosks. A souvenir shop is located at the visitor center.
Best Time to Visit
The best time of day for photography is generally in the early morning or late afternoon when the sunlight is softer and casts longer shadows across the hills. The cooler months, from November to February, offer the most pleasant weather with lower temperatures and less humidity. The park is open daily from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM.
Facts & Legends
A specific tip for visitors is to check the park's schedule for seasonal flower blooms, particularly the vibrant sunflower fields which typically flower from November to December, and the various floral displays that change throughout the year. The park's name, "Singha," is derived from the lion symbol used by Boon Rawd Brewery.
