Source Bleue de Meski, Errachidia, Morocco, Africa

The Source Bleue de Meski is a natural spring located in the Errachidia province of Morocco.

This geological formation features a series of interconnected pools fed by a natural spring, creating distinct blue-hued water bodies.

Visual Characteristics

The pools exhibit a deep blue coloration due to mineral content and depth. The surrounding terrain consists of rocky outcrops and sparse desert vegetation. The primary pool measures approximately 20 meters in diameter, with smaller adjacent pools. Water depth varies, reaching up to 5 meters in the central section.

Location & Access Logistics

The Source Bleue de Meski is situated approximately 15 kilometers west of the town of Errachidia, accessible via National Road 13 (N13). From Errachidia, travel west on N13 for approximately 12 kilometers. Turn right onto a marked dirt track (unpaved, approximately 3 kilometers long) leading directly to the spring. Parking is available on the unpaved area adjacent to the main pool. No public transport directly serves the site.

Historical & Ecological Origin

The spring is a result of underground water sources emerging through porous limestone formations. The unique blue color is attributed to dissolved minerals, primarily calcium carbonate, and the depth of the water. The area is classified as a desert oasis ecosystem.

Key Highlights & Activities

Swimming is permitted in the designated main pool. Observation of the mineral formations is possible. Hiking on the surrounding rocky terrain is an option, though trails are not formally marked.

Infrastructure & Amenities

Basic, unshaded seating areas are present. No restroom facilities are available. Cell phone signal (4G/5G) is intermittent to non-existent at the site. No food vendors are located at the spring; visitors should bring provisions.

Best Time to Visit

For optimal lighting and temperature, visit between 10:00 AM and 3:00 PM. The months of April, May, October, and November offer the most temperate weather conditions. Water temperature remains consistent year-round.

Facts & Legends

Local folklore suggests the spring's waters possess healing properties. Geologically, the consistent blue hue is a result of light refraction and reflection off the mineral-rich water and the dark substrate of the pool floor.
