The Temple of Heaven is a complex of religious buildings located in the southeastern part of Beijing, China.
It served as a place of prayer for emperors of the Ming and Qing dynasties.

The complex is characterized by its circular structures, symbolizing heaven, and square bases, representing the earth. The primary building, the Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests, is a triple-eaved circular building constructed with wood, featuring a blue tiled roof and red walls. Other structures include the Imperial Vault of Heaven, a smaller circular building, and the Circular Mound Altar, an open-air platform.

The Temple of Heaven is situated in Dongcheng District, approximately 6 kilometers south of Tiananmen Square. Access is via Tiantan Road. Public transport options include subway lines: Line 5 to Tiantandongmen Station (East Gate) or Line 8 to Tianqiao Station (West Gate). Historical & Ecological Origin
Construction of the Temple of Heaven began in 1406 during the reign of the Yongle Emperor of the Ming Dynasty and was completed in 1420. It was later expanded and renovated during the Qing Dynasty. The original purpose was for the Emperor to perform annual rites and pray for good harvests.

The Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests was rebuilt in 1751 after being struck by lightning and burning down. The echo effect within the Imperial Vault of Heaven is a notable acoustic phenomenon, where a person standing at the center of the vault can reportedly hear their voice amplified.
