The structure includes a central section with six bays and two smaller bays at either end. Along the sides, there are wooden railings and a series of small platforms or seating areas.

Location & Access Logistics

To reach the Thanh Toan Bridge from Hue city center, take National Highway 1A eastward for approximately 6 kilometers, then turn onto provincial road 10B (also known as Le Van Huu Street) and proceed for another 2 kilometers. The bridge is situated within Thanh Toan village. Parking is available near the bridge entrance. Public transport options include local bus routes that service the area; inquire locally for specific line numbers as they can change.

Historical & Ecological Origin

The Thanh Toan Bridge was constructed in 1535 during the Le Dynasty by Tran Thi Dao, a noblewoman, as a donation to the local community. Its original purpose was to facilitate travel and commerce for villagers crossing the Nhu Y River. The bridge is built over a small canal, not a major river, and its construction is a testament to traditional Vietnamese wooden architecture.

Key Highlights & Activities

Visitors can walk across the bridge, observing its architectural details. The platforms along the sides offer a place to rest and view the surrounding rice paddies. The Thanh Toan Village Museum, located adjacent to the bridge, displays artifacts related to local life and the bridge's history. Photography of the bridge and the rural landscape is a common activity.

Infrastructure & Amenities

Restrooms are available near the bridge. Shade is provided by the bridge's roof and surrounding trees. Cell phone signal (4G/5G) is generally available in the village. Small food stalls and local eateries are located in the vicinity of the bridge, offering snacks and local dishes.

Best Time to Visit

The best time of day for photography is in the early morning or late afternoon when the sunlight creates softer shadows. The dry season, from March to August, offers the most pleasant weather. There are no specific tide requirements as the bridge spans a canal.

Facts & Legends

A local legend states that the bridge was built by Tran Thi Dao to honor her husband, who was a high-ranking mandarin. It is one of the few remaining covered bridges in Vietnam from its era, preserving traditional architectural techniques. A unique tip for visitors is to explore the smaller paths surrounding the bridge to experience the local agricultural life and rice paddies.
