District Wharf Marina, Southeast Washington, USA Washington DC, North America
District Wharf Marina is a waterfront development located in Southwest Washington, D.C. It serves as a hub for maritime activities and public access to the Washington Channel.
Visual Characteristics
The marina features a series of fixed and floating docks constructed from treated lumber and composite materials. The docks are arranged in parallel slips, accommodating vessels of various lengths. Surrounding the marina are modern, multi-story buildings with facades of glass, steel, and brick, housing retail and residential units. The water within the marina is typically a murky brown, reflecting the sediment from the Potomac River. Lighting is provided by functional bollard lights along the docks and architectural lighting on the adjacent buildings.

The current development is a modern revitalization project, with construction phases beginning in the mid-2010s. Ecologically, the Washington Channel is an estuarine environment, part of the larger Potomac River watershed, which flows into the Chesapeake Bay.
Key Highlights & Activities
Boating and yachting are primary activities. Transient and permanent slip rentals are available. Fishing from the piers is permitted. Kayak and paddleboard rentals can be accessed from vendors along the waterfront. Public access to the promenade allows for walking and observing docked vessels.
Infrastructure & Amenities
Restrooms are located within the main Wharf complex. Shade is provided by awnings over some seating areas and by the surrounding buildings. Cell phone signal (4G/5G) is generally strong throughout the area. Numerous food vendors, restaurants, and cafes are situated along the waterfront promenade adjacent to the marina.
Best Time to Visit
For optimal lighting for photography of the marina and surrounding architecture, early morning (07:00-09:00) or late afternoon (16:00-18:00) is recommended. The best months for pleasant outdoor conditions are April through October. Tidal influence on dock water levels is minimal for most recreational vessels.
