The Elephant Stables is a 19-domed structure located in the southern part of the Royal Centre of Hampi, India.
Visual Characteristics
This rectangular building is constructed from brick and plastered with lime. It features eleven large, arched doorways on its northern facade and a central dome flanked by smaller domes. The exterior is painted a pale ochre.

The Elephant Stables is situated approximately 1.5km south of the Hampi Bazaar. Access is via local roads within the Hampi complex. Parking is available in designated areas near the Royal Centre. The nearest bus stop is in Hampi Bazaar, requiring a short walk to the site.
Historical & Ecological Origin
Constructed in the 15th century during the Vijayanagara Empire, the Elephant Stables served as housing for the royal elephants. It was designed to accommodate and protect the animals, particularly during the monsoon season.

Visitors can observe the individual stalls designed for the elephants. The architecture of the domed roof is a point of interest. Photography of the structure's exterior is permitted.

Best Time to Visit
For optimal lighting conditions for photography, visit in the early morning (7:00 AM - 9:00 AM) or late afternoon (4:00 PM - 5:30 PM) when the sun is at a lower angle. The dry season, from October to March, offers the most comfortable weather.
