Holiday Island Resort, South Ari Atoll, Maldives, Asia

Holiday Island Resort is a private island resort located in the South Ari Atoll of the Maldives.

It functions as a tourist accommodation facility offering various recreational and lodging services.

Visual Characteristics

The resort occupies a flat island with a land area of approximately 150,000 square meters. The primary structures are low-rise buildings constructed with concrete and finished with white plaster, featuring tiled roofs. Vegetation consists of cultivated coconut palms and tropical shrubs. The surrounding waters exhibit a gradient of turquoise and deep blue, with visible coral reefs near the shoreline.

Location & Access Logistics

Holiday Island Resort is situated in the South Ari Atoll, approximately 90 kilometers southwest of Velana International Airport (MLE) in Malé. Access is primarily via seaplane or domestic flight followed by a speedboat transfer. Seaplane transfers depart from the seaplane terminal at MLE and take approximately 30 minutes. Domestic flights to Maamigili Airport (VAM) are followed by a 15-minute speedboat ride to the resort. There is no direct road access from the mainland.

Historical & Ecological Origin

The island was developed as a resort facility. Its ecological origin is that of a coral island, formed over millennia by the accumulation of coral polyps and skeletal fragments. The atoll itself is a submerged volcanic formation.

Key Highlights & Activities

Activities include snorkeling and diving in the house reef and nearby dive sites, with opportunities to observe manta rays and whale sharks seasonally. Water sports such as windsurfing, kayaking, and jet skiing are available. The resort offers fishing excursions and sunset cruises. On-site, guests can utilize the swimming pool and fitness center.

Infrastructure & Amenities

The resort provides guest rooms and bungalows. Restrooms are available in guest accommodations and public areas. Shaded areas are provided by palm trees and resort structures. Cell phone signal (4G) is generally available. On-site dining facilities are present, with food vendors typically located within the resort premises.

Best Time to Visit

The dry season, from December to April, offers the most favorable weather conditions with lower humidity and minimal rainfall. For photography, early morning and late afternoon provide optimal lighting. High tide is generally preferred for swimming and water activities due to increased water depth around the island.

Facts & Legends

The South Ari Atoll is renowned for its consistent presence of whale sharks throughout the year, making it a prime location for observing these large filter feeders. A specific local legend speaks of ancient mariners navigating by the unique patterns of the coral formations visible beneath the clear waters.
