Historical & Ecological Origin
Kuredu Island is a natural coral island formed over millennia through the accumulation of coral polyps. The resort development began in the late 1980s, transforming the uninhabited island into a tourist destination. The surrounding marine environment is part of the Lhaviyani Atoll, a protected marine area known for its biodiversity.
Key Highlights & Activities
Activities include snorkeling and diving in the house reef and nearby dive sites, such as the Kuredu Express. Water sports such as windsurfing, kayaking, and paddleboarding are available. The resort offers golf on its 9-hole course and tennis facilities. Sunset cruises and dolphin watching excursions are also offered.
Infrastructure & Amenities
The resort provides multiple dining venues, bars, swimming pools, and a spa. Wi-Fi is available throughout the resort, with varying signal strength. Restrooms are located in all public areas and guest accommodations. Shade is provided by natural vegetation and constructed shelters.
Best Time to Visit
The dry season, from December to April, offers the most favorable weather conditions with lower humidity and minimal rainfall. The best time of day for underwater photography is generally between 10:00 AM and 3:00 PM when sunlight penetration is optimal. Tides do not significantly impact access to the island itself but can affect specific dive and snorkel site conditions.
Facts & Legends
Kuredu Island is known for its extensive sandbank that extends from the eastern tip of the island, particularly visible during low tide. This sandbank is a popular location for photography and private dining experiences. Local folklore often speaks of the island's tranquility and its connection to the surrounding ocean currents.
