Villingili Island is situated 105 kilometers south of Velana International Airport (MLE) in Malé. Access is primarily via a 30-minute seaplane transfer from MLE. Alternatively, a 1.5-hour speedboat transfer is available. There is no direct road access from the mainland. On-island transport consists of electric buggies and walking paths.

Villingili Island is a natural coral island, formed over millennia by the accumulation of coral polyps. It is part of the larger South Ari Atoll, a ring-shaped coral reef system formed by volcanic activity millions of years ago. The island itself was developed as a resort in the early 2000s.
