Construction of the KL Tower commenced on October 1, 1994, and it was officially opened on March 20, 1996. The tower was designed by Kumpulan Senireka Akitek Sdn Bhd and built by PECD Berhad. Its primary purpose was to improve telecommunications infrastructure and provide a platform for broadcasting. The tower is situated within the Bukit Nanas Forest Reserve, one of the oldest protected forest reserves in Malaysia, established in 1906.
