Established in 1990 by the Nigerian Conservation Foundation (NCF), the Lekki Conservation Centre was created to protect the natural habitat of the Lekki Peninsula and serve as an environmental education and recreation facility. The area's ecological origin is a mix of coastal mangrove forest and freshwater swamp, supporting a diverse range of flora and fauna.

The Lekki Conservation Centre is home to a family of Mona monkeys and bushbucks. A specific tip for visitors is to wear insect repellent, especially during the wetter months, as mosquitoes are present in the mangrove areas.
