Phnom Da is situated approximately 10 kilometers west of Takeo city center. Access is typically via National Road 2, then turning onto local roads leading to the base of the hill. Parking is available at the base of Phnom Da. Local tuk-tuks and taxis can be hired from Takeo city. Boat access is also possible via the Tonle Bassac river system, with a short walk from the riverbank.

The temples on Phnom Da date back to the 6th century CE, predating the Angkorian period. They are attributed to the Funan kingdom. The hill is a natural geological formation, a limestone outcrop rising from the surrounding plains.

A local legend suggests that the cave temple, Phnom Da Cave, was once used as a meditation site by a hermit. The site is also known for its well-preserved lintels and pediments, offering insights into early Khmer art.
