Tonle Bati is a reservoir and temple complex located approximately 35 kilometers south of Phnom Penh, Cambodia.
Visual Characteristics
The site features two primary Hindu temples constructed from sandstone:Ta Prohm and Prasat Bat Chum. Ta Prohm exhibits intricate bas-relief carvings depicting scenes from Hindu epics. Prasat Bat Chum consists of three brick towers arranged in a row. The reservoir itself is a body of water surrounded by vegetation, with a small island accessible by a causeway.

Tonle Bati is situated off National Road 2. The turn-off is approximately 30 kilometers from Phnom Penh. From the main road, it is an additional 5 kilometers to the temple complex. Parking is available on-site. Public transport options are limited; private taxis or tuk-tuks are the most common methods of access from Phnom Penh.
Historical & Ecological Origin
The temples at Tonle Bati date back to the 11th and 12th centuries, built during the reign of King Suryavarman II and Jayavarman VII. They served as religious sites dedicated to Hindu deities, primarily Shiva and Vishnu. The reservoir is an ancient man-made irrigation feature, typical of Khmer hydraulic engineering.
