Visual Characteristics
The church is defined by an architectural contrast. The exterior is a Neo-Gothic brick structure with five distinct towers. The interior, however, is a Neoclassical rotunda-a circular hall with a massive dome, bright white walls, and gold detailing, creating a space unique among North German churches.

Historical Origin
Dedicated to St. Lambert of Maastricht, the site originaly housed a Romanesque hall church from the 12th century. Between 1791 and 1797, under Duke Peter Friedrich Ludwig, the interior was completely remodeled into the present Neoclassical rotunda. The current Neo-Gothic brick facade and the towers were added later, between 1873 and 1887.
