Historical Origin
The garden was commissioned by Duke Peter Friedrich Ludwig and created between 1814 and 1828. It was designed by the court gardener Julius Friedrich Wilhelm Bosse. Unlike many aristocratic gardens of the time, the Duke intended for it to be accessible to the public from its inception, reflecting Enlightenment ideals.
Key Highlights & Activities

Best Time to Visit

Facts & Legends
A technical oddity is that the park incorporates the Oldenburger Hunte river as a natural boundary and aesthetic element, using a system of ditches to maintain the water levels. Local lore suggests the Duke frequently walked the paths anonymously to observe whether his citizens were truly enjoying the "gift" of the public garden.
