The lake is characterized by its clear, deep blue water, reflecting the surrounding granite peaks and evergreen forests. The shoreline consists of rocky terrain interspersed with patches of alpine meadows. The elevation of the lake is 8,146 feet (2,483 meters).

Location & Access Logistics

Access to Tony Grove Lake is via the Tony Grove Road (Forest Road 065), which is a paved, single-lane road originating from Utah State Route 89. The turnoff is located approximately 18 miles northeast of Logan. The road is typically open from late May or early June through October, depending on snow conditions. Parking is available in a designated lot at the lake's south end. No public transport services operate directly to the lake.

Historical & Ecological Origin

Tony Grove Lake is a natural lake that was enlarged by the construction of a small dam in 1910 by the U.S. Forest Service to create a reservoir for irrigation. The surrounding landscape is a product of glacial activity, with U-shaped valleys and cirques characteristic of the Wasatch Range.

Key Highlights & Activities

Activities include fishing for cutthroat trout and rainbow trout. Hiking trails originate from the lake, including the Tony Grove Lake Trail which circles the lake, and the High Creek Trail which ascends into the surrounding mountains. Picnicking is permitted at designated sites.

Infrastructure & Amenities

Restrooms are available at the trailhead and parking area. Limited shade is provided by scattered conifer trees. Cell phone signal is generally unreliable at the lake. No food vendors are present at the lake; visitors should bring their own supplies.

Best Time to Visit

The best months for visiting are July through September, when the road is reliably clear of snow and daytime temperatures are mild. Mid-morning offers good lighting for photography as the sun rises higher over the eastern peaks. The lake is accessible during daylight hours.

Facts & Legends

A local legend suggests that the lake is inhabited by a water spirit, though no verifiable accounts exist. The area is known for its significant population of wildflowers during the summer months, particularly in the meadows surrounding the lake.
