The island features 3.5 miles of undeveloped shoreline with light-colored, fine-grained sand. The interior consists of a mature slash pine and oak hammock forest. Tidal flats and mangrove areas are present along the western and southern edges.
Location & Access Logistics
Access is primarily via the Caladesi Connection ferry service departing from Honeymoon Island State Park. The ferry ride is approximately 20 minutes. Private boat docking is available at a limited number of slips on the southern end of the island. Parking is available at Honeymoon Island State Park for a fee. No direct road access exists to Caladesi Island.

The best time for beach activities and swimming is during daylight hours. For birdwatching, early morning and late afternoon offer increased activity. The dry season, from November to April, generally provides the most pleasant weather conditions with lower humidity and less rainfall.
Facts & Legends
Caladesi Island is one of the few remaining undeveloped barrier islands on Florida's Gulf Coast. A notable historical event was the island's survival of the 1921 Tarpon Springs hurricane, which separated it from its northern neighbor, Honeymoon Island, creating the current channel.
