Access is via State Road 586 (Curlew Road) to Causeway Boulevard. A toll is collected for entry. Ample parking is available within the park, including designated areas for RVs and trailers. Public transportation options are limited; the nearest bus route stops several miles from the park entrance.
Historical & Ecological Origin
Honeymoon Island was originally named "Hog Island" and was privately owned. In the 1930s, it was renamed "Honeymoon Island" and developed as a tourist destination, featuring a hotel and cottages. The state acquired the land in 1964, establishing it as a state park to preserve its natural environment. Ecologically, it is a barrier island formed by sand deposition and shaped by tidal currents and storm events.
