Chateau Český Šternberk | Prague

Chateau Český Šternberk is a massive Gothic-turned-Baroque fortress situated on a steep rocky ridge above the Sázava River in the Central Bohemian Region. It is one of the oldest and best-preserved castles in the country and is notably still owned by the Sternberg family, the original founders.

Founded in 1241 by Zdeslav of Divišov, the castle has remained in the possession of the Sternberg family for nearly 800 years, with the exception of the 1949–1992 state confiscation period.
