The Golden Gate entrance is decorated with a 14th-century mosaic of the Last Judgment composed of over one million glass and stone pieces.

The cathedral is located at Hradčany, Prague 1. It is accessible via the No. 22 or 23 tram to the Pražský hrad stop, followed by a 500-meter walk to the castle's second courtyard. Visitors can also use the Malostranská metro station (Line A) and ascend the Old Castle Stairs. Access requires passing through security checkpoints at the Prague Castle perimeter.

Construction began in 1344 by order of Charles IV, following the plans of architects Matthias of Arras and Peter Parler. The structure was built on the site of a 10th-century rotunda and an 11th-century basilica. Due to wars and fires, the building remained unfinished for centuries until its final completion in 1929.

The best lighting for the stained glass occurs during the morning hours (09:00–11:00). High season (May–September) results in long security lines; arriving at the castle gates by 08:30 is recommended. The cathedral has restricted hours on Sundays due to mass.
Facts & Legends
The cathedral houses the crown jewels of Bohemia, which are protected by seven locks. The keys are held by seven different state and church officials. Legend states that any usurper who places the crown on their head without right will die within a year, a myth reinforced by the death of Reinhard Heydrich during WWII.
