Construction of the City Palace began in 1727 under Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II, the founder of Jaipur. It was designed by architects like Vidyadhar Bhattacharya. Its original purpose was to serve as the royal residence and administrative center for the Kachwaha Rajput rulers.

Facts & Legends

The Diwan-i-Khas contains two of the world's largest silver objects, each weighing 340 kilograms. They were commissioned by Maharaja Sawai Madho Singh I to carry Ganges water from his pilgrimage to England.
