Historical & Ecological Origin

The site was established as a gold mining operation in the early 1900s, with significant activity occurring between 1907 and 1917. The primary purpose was the extraction of placer gold. Ecologically, the area is part of the Chugach Mountains foothills, characterized by glacial till and permafrost, influencing its vegetation and soil composition.
