Longtail boats and speedboats can be hired from the main island of Koh Phi Phi Don, a journey of approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour. There is no direct road access. A national park entrance fee is required for entry.
Historical & Ecological Origin
The limestone cliffs surrounding Maya Bay are composed of sedimentary rock formed millions of years ago. The bay itself is a natural geological formation, sculpted by erosion from wind and sea. The marine ecosystem within the bay supports a variety of coral species and fish.
Key Highlights & Activities
Swimming and snorkeling are permitted within designated areas. Boat tours circumnavigate the island, offering views of the bay from the water. Photography of the surrounding cliffs and beach is a primary activity. Access to the beach itself is managed to control visitor numbers.

Best Time to Visit
The best time of day for photography is generally between 10:00 AM and 3:00 PM when sunlight is most direct. The dry season, from November to April, offers the most favorable weather conditions with calmer seas. High tide is preferable for accessing the beach area.
Facts & Legends
Maya Bay gained international recognition as the filming location for the 2000 movie "The Beach." Due to the impact of tourism, the bay was closed for several years to allow ecological recovery, reopening with stricter visitor management protocols.
