Ba Na Hills is approximately 25 kilometers (15.5 miles) west of Da Nang city center. Access is primarily via the Ba Na Cable Car, one of the longest non-stop single-track cable cars in the world, departing from Suoi Mo station. Private vehicles can reach the base station, with parking available. Public bus routes from Da Nang to Ba Na Hills are limited; private car or taxi services are more common.

A local legend suggests that the mountain was named "Ba Na" after a beautiful woman who lived there. Historically, the French built over 20 villas on the mountain, most of which have since deteriorated or been rebuilt.
