Linh Ung Pagoda is a Buddhist temple located on Son Tra Peninsula in Da Nang, Vietnam. It is situated on a mountainside overlooking the East Sea.

Visual Characteristics

The pagoda complex features a large, white concrete statue of the Goddess of Mercy (Quan Am) standing 67 meters tall, facing the sea. The main pagoda building is constructed with traditional Vietnamese architecture, incorporating red-tiled roofs and intricate carvings. The grounds are landscaped with gardens and smaller shrines.

Location & Access Logistics

The pagoda is approximately 10 kilometers northeast of Da Nang city center. Access is via Son Tra Road, a paved route suitable for private vehicles. Parking is available on-site. Public transport options directly to the pagoda are limited; taxis or ride-sharing services are the most common methods of arrival from the city.

Historical & Ecological Origin

The current Linh Ung Pagoda was completed in 2010, though Buddhist structures have existed on Son Tra Peninsula for centuries. The site is part of the Son Tra Nature Reserve, an area known for its biodiversity, including the endangered Red-shanked Douc Langur.

Key Highlights & Activities

Visitors can observe the Quan Am statue, explore the main pagoda hall, and walk through the surrounding gardens. The elevated position offers panoramic views of Da Nang city and the coastline. Photography is permitted throughout the complex.

Infrastructure & Amenities

Restrooms are available on-site. Shade is provided by trees and the pagoda structures. Cell phone signal (4G/5G) is generally good within the pagoda complex. Food vendors are not present within the pagoda itself, but are located at the base of Son Tra Peninsula.

Best Time to Visit

The best time of day for photography is in the morning or late afternoon when the light is softer. The dry season, from March to September, offers the most favorable weather conditions. There are no tide-dependent activities.

Facts & Legends

A local belief states that the Goddess of Mercy statue protects fishermen at sea. The pagoda is one of three Linh Ung Pagodas in Da Nang, with the others located on Ba Na Hills and at My Khe Beach.
