Flathead Lake Lodge is located approximately 10 miles north of Bigfork, Montana, accessible via State Highway 35. From Kalispell, take US-93 South for approximately 20 miles, then turn east onto State Highway 82 towards Bigfork. Continue on Highway 82 for 5 miles, then turn north onto State Highway 35. The lodge entrance is approximately 10 miles north on the west side of Highway 35. Ample on-site parking is available for guests. No public transport directly serves the lodge.

The lodge was established in 1945 by the Schafer family. It was originally conceived as a working cattle ranch that also offered guest accommodations. The property is situated within the Northern Rocky Mountains physiographic province, adjacent to the Flathead Lake basin, a large natural freshwater lake formed by glacial activity.
