It comprises a luxury shopping mall, residential towers, and a riverside promenade.
Visual Characteristics
The complex features a contemporary architectural design with extensive use of glass and metal. The main shopping mall structure is characterized by its undulating, multi-layered roof, designed to resemble a traditional Thai floating basket (krathong). The exterior is illuminated at night with dynamic LED lighting. The development includes two residential skyscrapers, the 77-story Peninsular Hotel Bangkok and the 52-story Mandarin Oriental Residences.

ICONSIAM is situated at 299 Soi Sukhumvit 101/1, Khlong Toei Nuea, Watthana, Bangkok 10110, Thailand. It is accessible via the BTS Skytrain, with the closest station being Saphan Taksin (S6) on the Silom Line. From Saphan Taksin station, a free shuttle boat service operates directly to the ICONSIAM pier. The journey by boat takes approximately 5 minutes. Road access is available from Charoen Nakhon Road. On-site parking is available for approximately 4,000 vehicles.
Historical & Ecological Origin
The development was conceived by Siam Piwat, a Thai luxury retail developer. Construction began in 2015 and the complex officially opened in November 2018. The project was designed to integrate modern retail with Thai culture and heritage, aiming to be a new global landmark for Bangkok. The site was previously occupied by a shipyard and industrial facilities.
Key Highlights & Activities
Visitors can explore a wide range of retail outlets, including international luxury brands and Thai artisanal products. The SookSiam zone on the ground floor offers a simulated floating market experience with food and craft vendors from across Thailand. The riverside promenade provides views of the Chao Phraya River and hosts a nightly water fountain show. The complex also houses a multi-screen cinema complex and an art gallery.
Infrastructure & Amenities
Restrooms are available on all floors. Extensive shaded areas are provided within the shopping mall and along the promenade. Cell phone signal (4G/5G) is generally strong throughout the complex. Numerous food and beverage options are available, ranging from fast food to fine dining restaurants.
Best Time to Visit
For optimal lighting for photography of the exterior and river, late afternoon leading into sunset is recommended. The water fountain show typically occurs nightly. The complex is open daily from 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM.
Facts & Legends
The design of the ICONSIAM roof is inspired by the "krathong" used in the Loy Krathong festival, a traditional Thai celebration. The development aims to showcase the "best of Thailand" to an international audience.
