Access is via the Pan Island Expressway (PIE) or Ayer Rajah Expressway (AYE), exiting onto Jurong West Street 21. Parking is available at the main entrance. The nearest Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) station is Chinese Garden (EW24/NS1), located adjacent to the garden entrance.

The Japanese Garden was opened in 1971. It was designed by the Japanese landscape architect, K. Kanamori. The garden's purpose was to promote Japanese culture and provide a tranquil recreational space.
