Visual Characteristics
The cathedral is constructed from dressed stone, primarily local limestone, giving it a pale grey to beige appearance. It features a cruciform plan with a central dome supported by pendentives. The exterior is characterized by arched windows and simple, unadorned facades, reflecting a Neo-Byzantine architectural style. The dome is octagonal and topped with a cross. The interior walls are plastered and painted, with some sections displaying religious iconography.

The cathedral is situated in the city of Shamakhi, approximately 145 kilometers west of Baku. Access is via the M4 highway. Historical & Ecological Origin
The original church on this site was constructed in 1890 by the architect Nikolai Fon-der-Nüll. It was consecrated in 1902. The current structure is a reconstruction, completed in 2012, following the destruction of the original building during the 1918 Armenian-Azerbaijani war and subsequent neglect. The purpose of the original construction was to serve the Russian Orthodox community in the region.
