Dillon Area Transit (DAT) bus route #3 stops at the intersection of South Montana Street and Park Road, a 0.3-mile walk to the park entrance.

Barrett Park was established in 1968 on land donated by the Barrett family, who were local ranchers. The pond was created in 1970 as part of the park's development to provide a water feature and habitat for local waterfowl.
