The Bibi-Heybat Mosque is a historical religious complex situated on the coast of Baku, Azerbaijan.

It is a reconstruction of a 13th-century mosque that was demolished by Soviet authorities.

Visual Characteristics

The current structure, completed in 1997, features a central dome and two minarets constructed from white limestone. The main prayer hall is rectangular. Decorative elements include intricate tilework and Arabic calligraphy. The complex is situated on a raised platform overlooking the Caspian Sea.

The mosque is located approximately 5 kilometers southwest of Baku's city center, along the Baku-Alat highway (M1). Access is via the highway. Parking is available on-site. Public transport options include bus route 125, which stops near the mosque entrance.

The original mosque was built in 1282 by Shirvanshah Fariburz I, dedicated to Ukeyma Khanum, a descendant of the Prophet Muhammad. The structure was destroyed in 1934 during the Soviet era. The current reconstruction adheres to the original architectural principles.
