It is designed to resemble the Great Pyramid of Giza.

The structure is a 30-story pyramid constructed from black glass and aluminum. Its height is 30 stories, or 146 meters (479 feet). The pyramid features a 118,000-square-foot (10,965 m2) casino floor. A 225,000-square-foot (20,903 m2) sphinx statue is positioned at the base of the pyramid.
Location & Access Logistics
The Luxor Hotel & Casino is situated at 3900 South Las Vegas Boulevard, approximately 4.8 kilometers (3 miles) south of the Las Vegas city center. Parking is available in a multi-story garage. The Las Vegas Monorail does not directly serve the Luxor; however, the Mandalay Bay Tram provides a connection to the Mandalay Bay station, which is served by the Monorail.
Historical & Ecological Origin
Construction of the Luxor began in 1991 and it opened on October 15, 1993. It was designed by the architectural firm of Veldon Simpson, with the primary contractor being Perini Building Company. The original purpose was to provide a themed resort experience centered around ancient Egypt.

Activities include gaming in the casino, attending live entertainment shows, and dining at various restaurants. The hotel features a 120,000-gallon (454,249 liter) swimming pool complex. The "IMAX at Luxor" theater offers film screenings.

For photography of the exterior pyramid, early morning or late evening provides optimal lighting conditions. The climate in Las Vegas is arid, with average high temperatures ranging from 16°C (61°F) in January to 40°C (104°F) in July. There are no tide-dependent activities.

The Luxor was originally designed without any rooms on the third floor, to maintain the pyramid's shape. This space was later converted into hotel rooms. A unique feature is the " Luxor Sky Beam," a powerful light that projects from the pyramid's apex into the night sky, visible for up to 443 kilometers (275 miles).
