Accessible via private vehicle or public "tro-tro" from the Kotokuraba station, the campus has multiple entry gates including the Main Gate and the Science Gate. Established in October 1962 as a university college in a special relationship with the University of Ghana, it attained full university status in 1971. The campus was built on a site originally consisting of coastal scrub and secondary forest.
