Public transport options include Songthaews (red shared taxis) that operate on routes passing the zoo entrance. Bus routes serving the city center also have stops near the zoo.

Established in 1977, Chiang Mai Zoo was initially conceived as a recreational area for the public. It was developed on land previously used for agricultural purposes. Facts & Legends

Chiang Mai Zoo is home to the first giant panda exhibit in Thailand, a gift from the Chinese government. The pandas, named Chuang Chuang and Lin Hui, arrived in 2003. A specific tip for visitors is to utilize the monorail early in the day to get an overview before exploring on foot.
