Visual Characteristics

The park is characterized by a 6-acre artificial lake at its center, surrounded by manicured lawns and mature trees. Walking paths, constructed of crushed stone and asphalt, traverse the perimeter and connect various points within the gardens. The landscape includes a small island accessible by a footbridge. The dominant colors are green from the grass and foliage, and the grey of the stone pathways and memorials.

Constitution Gardens is situated between Constitution Avenue NW and the Potomac River, west of the Washington Monument. It is approximately 1.5 miles west of the White House. Access is available from Constitution Avenue NW and the paths connecting to the National Mall. Limited street parking is available along Constitution Avenue NW, with larger parking facilities located at the Lincoln Memorial and the National Museum of American History, both within a 15-minute walk.
