Purana Qila | New Delhi

Purana Qila, meaning "Old Fort," is a historic fort complex located in New Delhi, India.

It is situated on the banks of the Yamuna River, adjacent to the Delhi Zoo.

Visual Characteristics

The fort is constructed primarily from red sandstone and marble. Its walls stand approximately 18 meters high and span a perimeter of about 1.5 kilometers. The complex features three imposing gates: the South Gate (Humayun Darwaza), the West Gate (Talaqi Darwaza), and the East Gate (Water Gate). Architectural elements include arched doorways, battlements, and decorative chhatris (domed kiosks).
