Visual Characteristics
The gardens are characterized by their multi-tiered structure, featuring arched loggias constructed from local globigerina limestone. The main terrace is paved with light-colored stone and includes several statues and monuments, such as a bronze sculpture of Sir Winston Churchill and a monument to Sir Thomas Maitland. The perimeter is defined by stone balustrades. Vegetation consists of mature palm trees, bougainvillea, and various Mediterranean shrubs, providing areas of shade. Below the gardens lies the Saluting Battery, with its array of historic cannons.

The Upper Barrakka Gardens are located at St. Ursula Street and St. Paul's Street on the eastern side of Valletta. They are approximately 0.5 kilometers from Republic Street, Valletta's central thoroughfare. Limited street parking is available within Valletta; visitors often utilize the MCP Car Park in Floriana, located 1.2km west, and walk or use public transport.
